Kayaking Day Camp – Boulder
Atonement Lutheran Church, 685 Inca Pkwy, Boulder, CO 80303
About
Kayaking Day Camp – Boulder focuses on kayaking, including flatwater and whitewater kayaking. Campers practice paddling independently and as a team while learning basic strokes, rescue techniques, river reading, water safety, using kayaking hand signals, making wet exits, and maneuvering Jackson Whitewater Kayaks. During the first two or three days, campers work on flatwater skills, fitting their equipment, using hand signals, making wet exits, and maneuvering Jackson Whitewater Kayaks before paddling in moving water.
• Ages: 7–12 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday

Kayaking Day Camp campers should have some previous experience paddling in standing or moving water, should feel fully comfortable on open water, and be comfortable being fully submerged in water for short periods of time. If a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, the camp reserves the right to move the camper to a different program if space is available or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. Transportation is provided to and from recreation areas, and campers use top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.
The program is staffed by highly qualified instructors and an incredibly well-trained and professional staff. Avid4 instructors are described as the number one point of positive feedback from parents of campers and are all 18 and older with safety and skills training. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved, how to prevent them, and how to respond if something goes wrong.
Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that at Avid4 Adventure kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. Programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17, and the camp is described as a premium camp committed to paying educators a fair wage. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service.
Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp, accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. It is committed to public transparency and accountability as a Certified B Corp, and its summer camps are described as highly acclaimed. The camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which includes a promise to provide an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and if Avid4 Adventure does not meet its promises, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free.
One parent, Emily Medress, reported in September 2023 that this was her daughter’s favorite camp and that her daughter learned to ride a bike without training wheels during camp, and that stand up paddle board, kayaking, and biking became her favorite activities. Another parent, Molly Marienthal, stated in September 2023 that her child wanted her to join to see what she learned each day and described Avid’s staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children, calling it a really well run program where kids learn new outdoor skills. A third parent, Suzanne Dayton, shared in September 2023 that her kids had the best time at the camp, still talked about it more than a month later, could not wait to go back the next year, and that she appreciated that they were active every day and learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
