CommuniKids Summer Camp is part of a language immersion preschool that offers full immersion in Spanish, French, or Mandarin and uses a refreshed themed-week summer camp format for 2026 in which every week brings a new adventure, including themes such as superheroes and space. The program follows a play-based, developmentally appropriate, theme-based, and integrated curriculum that emphasizes global values and supports multilingualism, confidence, social empathy, and cultural awareness. Teachers are native speakers with years of experience working with young children and use the ECSL immersive, science-based method cited by Harvard University. CommuniKids is peanut and tree nut free, and young children ages 18 months to 5 1/2 attending full-time summer camp have a 45-minute Quiet Time period; children bring their own lunch from home.

CommuniKids was founded in 2005, expanded to Falls Church and added languages in both locations in 2007, and established two full-time preschool programs in 2009, one in DC and one in Falls Church. In 2012, both schools received accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and CommuniKids is celebrating 15 years. The preschool program is accredited by NAEYC, is among the 8% of preschools in the United States with this accreditation, and holds the highest accreditation from national and local regulating bodies (NAEYC, DC OSSE, PKEEP). Founders are Jeannine Piacenza and Raúl Echevarría.

The mission at CommuniKids is to prepare young children to become the global citizens of tomorrow by creating a joyful, playful, and nurturing environment that immerses students in a second language. CommuniKids Preschool partners with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) to provide Free Pre-K at its DC centers for 3- and 4-year-old residents of the District of Columbia.

Families pay a non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $100.00 per child per session at registration, which is applied toward the camp rate, and the remaining balance is due by May 1, 2026. CommuniKids does not offer refunds for canceled sessions after registration is completed and does not offer refunds or make-ups for missed days. Families may request session changes before May 1, 2026, depending on space availability; after May 4, no session changes are accepted. Parents must submit current DC school entrance health forms and other required forms by June 7, 2026, and children cannot attend camp unless forms have been submitted in advance.

Parents describe the teachers as kind, patient, and skilled at teaching young children, and note that teachers communicate with parents regularly and are available by email or in person. Families report that CommuniKids includes cultural diversity, different languages, and learning through play, and that their children enjoy a supportive, kind, and caring environment with a focus on being global citizens. Some parents state that their children have become completely fluent in Spanish and have thrived in a play-based learning environment, and others mention that they see a huge smile on their child’s face at pick-up, which they value.
