About
GOswim Swimming Lessons offers weekly GOswim swimming lessons, Learn to Swim GOswim, adult swimming lessons, and a Development Squad. The program also offers a School Swimming Program, a 1 week Holiday Swim Program that can be used for either a Fast Track program or a Water Safety program, and access to lap lane swimming and Aquatics Day. Families can also access related activities at the same centre, including Aqua Aerobics, Reformer Pilates, Personal Training, Group Fitness, and Teen Gym.
• Ages: 6 months–18 years old
• Schedule: Weekly swimming lessons run throughout the year for 48 weeks, with no swimming lessons on Public Holidays, plus a 1 week Holiday Swim Program.
• Price: Membership fees are due and payable via direct debit, and this fee covers the cost of the lesson and holds the student’s place in class.
GOswim swimming lessons are powered by Swimming Australia and are supported by professionally qualified teachers. GOswim focuses on contemporary, experiential and activity-based learning, and its curriculum covers seven areas of learning: entries and exits; floating and sculling; movement, propulsion and stroke development; personal survival; underwater skills; rescue and emergency; and water safety knowledge. The program caters to infants with their parents (children aged 6 months to 3.5 years), preschoolers (children aged 3.5–5 years), primary school aged children (children aged 5 years and above), Development Squad participants, and adults.
The program uses a weekly payment direct debit system for swimming lessons, with ongoing enrolment that removes the need to re-enrol each term and keeps a preferred lesson time. Swimming lessons are not held on Public Holidays, but access to the centre continues on these days, and families receive free family swim access for 4 weeks over summer. Essentials listed for each lesson include a towel, a well and non-contagious student, goggles or a cap if preferred, a swim nappy if the child is not toilet trained, a happy and cheery smile with lots of energy, and the student’s membership card and rewards card.
Everyone’s GOswim journey is powered by the Active World app, which provides a self-managed personal portal to view upcoming classes, book new classes, advise of non-attendance and book make-up lessons, track learning pathways and progression, receive digital awards, send and receive messages to centre staff, and manage personal and billing details. Families are instructed to download the Active World app to log in or enrol using the code PORTLAND. Establishing a strong and effective swimming technique, becoming empowered to think, discuss and decide, and enhancing knowledge, skill and understanding are listed as benefits of the program.
Use of video and mobile phone cameras is prohibited in the venue without prior management consent. Portland Leisure and Aquatic Centre is one of the largest gyms, swim schools, and group fitness providers in the Glenelg Shire, and it offers the largest swimming and water safety program in the area. The centre hosts 8 Aqua classes, 18 Reformer Pilates classes and 37 other mixed classes each week, for a total of 63 classes a week.
The Portland Leisure and Aquatic Centre aims to provide an enjoyable experience for the whole community, for both members and guests, to participate in and use its services, programs and activities. It has proudly hosted Aquatics Day for the second year in a row as part of the 2025 Tri State Games, an annual, week-long, inclusive sporting event that brings together over 300 athletes of all abilities from across Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.
