Nature Camps for Kids Near Marin County

Tweens and teens are more than welcome at Sunbeam! Mixed-age learning is awesome! We have successfully had 10-year-olds and older help out as "junior assistants" with our camps, and all younger kids and big kid helpers absolutely loved it. We welcome their wisdom and enthusiasm.

Tree Frog Treks is back for another summer of Wild Science at Golden Gate Park, with both Half-Day Camps and Full-Day Camps available! During each camp session, campers will meet live animals, perform fun experiments, build connections and critical thinking skills through adventuring in nature with peers and instructors. Come meet Blondie the Burmese Python, Trucker the Tortoise, Artemis the Blue-tongued Skink, and Jumpy the White’s Tree Frog - to name some of our nearly 100 Animal Ambassadors! We play games and tell stories to bring many unseen aspects of our urban habitats to life for our campers. We Wander and Wonder Together!

We will spend mid-summer mornings exploring Marin’s amazing natural playscapes. Urchin leader, Dylan Turner, will be joined by dynamic preschool educator Samantha Grey as we visit all the best hideaways that are perfect for young children’s play!

For ages 4-6 in San Rafael, Vilda offers a half-day experience focused on nature exploration through activities like animal tracking, shelter building, and nature games, tailored to the specific landscapes of each site, such as tracking and plants and beach activities at China Camp, suitable for both first-time and experienced young campers.

For ages 9-12 in Fairfax and Lagunitas offers an immersive experience in wilderness skills, including an overnight campout to test newly acquired abilities, covering topics like nature awareness, wilderness safety, animal tracking, and fire-making, suitable for both newcomers and those who have previously participated in Vilda programs.

This camp is designed for transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten child/ren to get them comfortable for the new school year ahead. The flow of each day will include morning circle, music, storytelling and movement, snack time, lunch and a short nature walk and art activity before pick up at 1pm.

Exploring nature through activities such as arts & crafts, nature-filled group games, and observing wildlife. Audubon Adventure Summer Camp is an inclusive outdoor experience for children ages 4 to 7 years old. Our campers build lasting friendships with their peers as they create, explore, investigate and, most importantly, enjoy the great outdoors. Audubon Adventure Summer Camp is a proud Partner of the National Inclusion Project. We welcome campers of ALL abilities.

Kids take a breath of fresh air away from screens, spark a love of nature, develop literacy across genres, read and write wilderness adventure stories and exciting accounts of animals and people in the great outdoors, make new friends, and more.

The program involves exploring a 217-acre nature preserve where children can learn about diverse natural environments and wildlife, participate in activities such as fishing, hiking, archery, and field games, engage in studio time creating various types of art, and attend a family open house showcasing their artworks and talents on the last Friday of each week.

We believe that every child should have access to Fairyland. Each year, we waive the admission fee for more than 9,000 guests through field trips and free passes distributed through our community partners. Fairyland provides sponsored memberships to income-qualifying families in our community, through our partners, and by direct application. We also host family days in collaboration with community partners such as City of Oakland Head Start, Brilliant Baby, Oakland Rotary, and Oakland LGBTQ Center.

Our Summer Camps take full advantage of the amazing natural spaces, campers will explore meadows, redwood groves and bay shorelines. They will hike along creeks, discover insects in ponds, watch river otters swimming, birds feeding and turtles sunbathing in lakes. Campers will discover bay and ocean beaches, enjoy tide pooling and animal tracking. Hands-on science investigations, environmental stewardship, nature games and art projects are integrated into each special camp theme. Team building activities and games help to build a fun-loving, connected and caring Summer Camp community of friends, scientists and environmentalists for every week of camp.

We are welcoming 15 kids aged 7-11 to visit our 160-acre educational farm in Marin County, explore natural beauty, create art, tour our barn, and learn about goat and sheep dairy.
